Many insurance plans cover PHP, but you may need to meet certain requirements. These can include co-pays, coverage limits, or preauthorization before starting intensive treatment.
An intensive outpatient program (IOP) is a flexible treatment option for patients in recovery from drug and alcohol addiction and/or mental illness. Patients join IOP when they need ongoing care while maintaining their routine. For this reason, IOP allows people to return home or to a sober living residence following treatment. IOP involves fewer hours than PHP and focuses on therapy, counseling, and relapse prevention. Insurance often covers IOP, but coverage depends on the individual’s plan.
Medication-assisted treatment (MAT) prescribes medication for the management of symptoms. For example, patients may battle symptoms of withdrawal, in which case an opioid antagonist like naltrexone can block cravings.
